Federal Cuts Threaten Food and Health Security in San Mateo County

In July, President Trump signed H.R. 1, a federal bill that jeopardizes CalFresh and Medi-Cal, programs millions of Californians rely on to eat and stay healthy.

More than 34,000 people in San Mateo County rely on CalFresh to help afford groceries, and over 173,000 residents depend on Medi-Cal for essential health care. Both programs face deep federal cuts — leaving families with tougher decisions between food, rent, medicine, transportation, or sending money back home.

El Concilio is on the front lines, helping families understand changing eligibility, access emergency resources, and stay connected to essential services. But as the federal safety net shrinks, local support must grow.

You can help.

Donate to our Emergency Fund today to keep families fed, healthy, and secure during this critical time. Every contribution — $20, $100, or $500 — helps us respond when a family’s stability is on the line.
