Climate Justice

Our Vision

El Concilio believes that every family deserves to live in a safe, healthy environment — free from pollution, displacement, and the unequal impacts of climate change. Our Climate Justice Program works to ensure that Latino, immigrant, and low-income communities in San Mateo County have a voice in shaping environmental policies and solutions.

Why Climate Justice Matters

Families in our neighborhoods often live near highways, refineries, or industrial zones where air pollution is the highest.

Rising energy and housing costs make it more difficult for working families to prepare for and recover from extreme weather.

Climate solutions often overlook communities of color, creating gaps in resources, resilience, and representation.

What We Do

Community Education: Host bilingual workshops and forums on air quality, energy efficiency, emergency preparedness, and green job opportunities.

Advocacy & Policy Engagement: Partner with coalitions and local governments to promote equitable climate policies, including clean transportation, renewable energy access, and environmental protections.

Leadership Development: Train community leaders to speak up at city councils, boards, and planning meetings so local voices shape climate decisions. Learn more about our Climate Ready Ambassadors program.

Direct Support: Connect families to resources such as utility assistance, home weatherization, and climate resilience programs.

Our Impact

Increased community participation in local climate planning processes.

Expanded access to resources that lower household energy costs and improve health.

Built bridges between historically underserved communities and decision-makers across San Mateo County.
